Class Descriptions
Creative
Dance (ages 2.5-4)
Children will express their ideas and feelings through
improvisation,
rhythm,
group songs, and dances using fun costumes & props while
gaining
confidence and body awareness.
Pre-ballet/Tap/Jazz (ages
4-6)
Introduces children to basic ballet,
tap steps, or jazz steps and
vocabulary using fun costumes & props.
BALLET
Beginning (6-8 yrs*)
Level I (8-12 years*) II (10-12 years*) III (Teen)
Ballet provides a solid foundation for other forms
of dance and forms
the basis for discipline, creativity,
and appreciation of dance as an
art form.
Barre and center work build strength and flexibility.
Individual guidance is applied
to develop coordination and poise.
Students are invited to take Pointe when their
strength and technical achievement reaches a certain level.
Ballet Technique
(Level II+)
Reviews the fundamental principles of
Ballet. Position of feet and arms,
proper alignment, ballet vocabulary, barre excercises will be taught
and reviewed in depth.
JAZZ Beginning
(6-8 yrs*) Level I (8-12 years*) II (10-12 years*) III (Teen)J
Classes teach basic jazz dance
technique, terminology and movement
quality with an emphasis on proper
execution of jazz isolations,
rhythms and style performed to
contemporary music.
HIP-HOP Beginning (6-8 yrs*) Level I (8-12 years*) II (10-12
years*) III (Teen)
Features the hottest steps
and choreography seen in music videos
and concerts. Students will
explore both new school
and old school
foundation movement.
LYRICAL
Level II
(10-12 years*)
A fusion of ballet & jazz techniques.
This style challenges dancers to use motion to interpret music
& express emotion.
MODERN
Level II
(10-12 years*) III (Teen)
Incorporates creativity & self-expression with a focus
on strength in movement and spatial awareness & imagery.
TAP
Beginning (6-8
yrs*) Level I (8-12 years*) II (10-12 years*) III (Teen)
Is an intricate form of dance with the feet as well as the body.
Tap enhances rhythmic
dynamics, speed and agility with a focus
on total body movement,
technique,
and performance quality.

Musical Theater Class
(8+ years*)
Dancers can learn choreography and songs
from their favorite musicals
and perform for family & friends the last week of class. 6 week
sessions
Lederach
Performing Company (9 years+
and Audition required)
Dancers must be registered for and
regularly
attend at least two dance
classes per week one of which must Ballet.
In addition, regular attendance is required for
evening master dance classes, rehearsals, and performances
throughout the year.
* Ages in
these levels are for guidelines only. Students will be placed in the
appropriate skill level through teacher recommendation.
Attire
Please
properly label all dance attire with the student's name in order to
prevent loss. Hair
should be neat and fixed securely away from the face. All Ballet, Tap
& Jazz students should wear leotard and tights. No baggy clothing

Recital & Performance Information
An annual recital is held in
June. Date and location to be announced. Students may
also be invited
to participate in community performances throughout the year such
as
the "Holiday Show" at a local nursing home.
